South West Transit Corridor (Package D)
Fulton Hogan awarded AE Group the bulk earthworks contract for the construction of South West Transit Corridor Package D.
The project comprised of 400,000 cubic metres of excavation with 55 metre vertical cuts with berms. Comprehensive material management was essential to the success of the project. Pavement material for upper zone of the carriageway was separated from layers in the cut which were surrounded by poor quality materials used in common fill embankments.
Availability of construction water was limited therefore, AE Group came up with an innovative solution to lay a high pressure polypipe line 9 Kilometres to a holding dam on site and pumped water 24 hours a day which provided the site ample water for construction and dust suppression.
